Scale patterns and metal get along
Everything that makes fur and feathers difficult in cast metal makes scales easy. A regular geometric surface is exactly what casting reproduces well, and the way silver catches light across a scaled body looks better than it does on almost any other subject. This is the group where the material is genuinely an advantage rather than a compromise.
Owners of reptiles also tend to know their animals in more specific detail than most, because they are handled and observed closely. Scale patterns, a healed injury, a particular way of holding the body — those are the identifying features, and they are worth asking about rather than waiting to be told.
What we need
- Full-body photographs showing the scale pattern clearly.
- Head detail, which is where individual recognition sits.
- The pose — coiled, extended, basking, climbing.
- Any distinctive scarring or scale irregularity, if you want it kept.
- Species, so the anatomy is right.
Why scales suit the material
Cast metal reproduces regular geometric surfaces extremely well, and it catches light across them in a way that flat photographs never show. A scaled body in silver has a depth and a movement that fur and feathers cannot achieve in the same material.
It is the one group where the material is genuinely an advantage rather than a compromise, and where the finished piece frequently exceeds what the owner was expecting.

Tell us if there is a mark you want kept — a healed scar, an odd scale, a missing toe. Owners of reptiles frequently identify their animal by exactly those things, and we will leave them out unless you say.

Color morphs are a large part of reptile keeping and silver renders none of it. An albino, an axanthic and a normal will produce the same colored object, distinguished only by pattern.

- Very well. A regular geometric surface is exactly what casting reproduces best.
- What about color morphs?
- Silver has no color. Different morphs of the same species will look alike apart from pattern.
- Can you do a coiled snake?
- Yes, and it is a strong form in metal.

- Yes, if you want them kept. We leave them out unless told.
